CALEDONIAN Big Band plays at our Big Band Night in KZ, inviting everyone to enjoy live swing music in a relaxed, welcoming and beautiful atmosphere.

We are all about the glorious music of the 1930&40, mixed with nowadays life. It’s an experience for young and old, for the listener and for the dancer, for the party animal and for the wallflower. We have the space for all of it in the allure of our 1956 stunning art-deco venue.

About the band:
The Caledonians Big Band was founded in 1942 and has always played a significant role in the history of jazz in the Zaan region, right up to the present day. Without interruption, this Zaan swing band—comprising 21 amateur and professional musicians—has been rehearsing, performing, and making its mark ever since. The orchestra is now led by pianist Emiel Bothenius and sounds and swings like never before. The music consists of swinging pieces from the repertoire of the great swing bands, including Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey, and is perfect for listening to, but of course also ideal for dancing! The lineup consists of five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals.

LINDY HOP is a blend of fun, connecting with new people or sharing a memory with a friend, finding a community, getting inspired by swing music & doing something good for your body and mind!

Our Lindy Hop Crash Course is a fast, fun way to jump into swing dancing and experience the feeling yourself.

In 3,5 hours (with breaks) we will teach you the basics of Lindy Hop and some fun moves which will get you dancing in no time.

NO PARTNER NEEDED! Everyone dances with everyone, and you’ll learn BOTH roles!

About The Compass Ballroom Stompers:
The Compass Ballroom Stompers made their debut at a Lindy Hop night in the Kompaszaal in 2015 and quickly became a fixture on the scene. Their swinging 1950s jazz gets dancers moving—and the energy bounces right back into the band.
They often play contrafacts: fresh melodies built on the chord progressions of jazz standards. Led by guitarist Matthijs Driessen, the band features Dano Roelvink on tenor sax, Bendert Zevenbergen on vibraphone, Leo Verbree on bass, and Hugo Jonker on drums. They perform monthly as “Contrafacts” in The Hague, with smaller line-ups regularly in Amsterdam.

BLUES DANCING — is all about connection, musicality, expression, and feeling the music!

LOES & ASSIL, two of the grooviest dancers, will teach you all the basics of Blues dancing and make sure you’re dancing in no time!

This crash course is aimed at beginners, as we will break down all the fundamentals.
But it’s also great for intermediate dancers — it’s always good to refresh your technique!

No partner needed — everyone dances with everyone, and everyone gets to lead and follow.
